How To Expertly Clean Your Tile Floors

Tile is a fantastic flooring option for your home. In addition to being one of the most durable flooring options out there, tile is also incredibly attractive within the home. Very versatile, tile can function well in almost any room within the home, including bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, utility rooms, offices, and so on. Stylish, durable, and relatively low-maintenance, tile is a flooring option all but guaranteed to age well.

For many, the actual value of tile stems from its lack of required maintenance. By dedicating a few minutes every week, you can help guarantee that your tile flooring looks its best. This blog post will highlight what we believe to be the best practice for cleaning your tile floors

Start by sweeping

Tile maintenance should always start with sweeping. Investing in a quality broom and regularly putting it to use will help eliminate dirt, dust, and other debris that can work its way into your tile/grout, giving your tile a grungy look. Debris could also potentially lead to scratches or other imperfections on your tile. Sweeping and removing dirt help prepare you for the next cleaning step: scrubbing. By jumping directly to scrubbing and skipping the sweeping, you’ll effectively be rubbing dirt more deeply into your tile. That’s not good for anyone. When cleaning your tile, start by sweeping.

Scrub your tile floors

After you’ve completed your sweeping, it is time to get to scrubbing. All you need to do here is choose a cleaning detergent (dish soap will work fine), combine it with warm water, and you’ve got your scrubbing solution! From there, you should dip a rag into the mixture and begin scrubbing away at your floor by hand. This may require some elbow grease, but we promise the result will be worth it. Be sure and change out your dirty water for cleaning water periodically throughout the scrubbing process.

Use your grout cleaner

With your tile scrubbed, it’s time to shift your attention to the grout. For grout, opt for a specialized cleaner. You should be able to find these at most big box stores.

Once obtained, put on a pair of plastic gloves and spray your cleansing product on the grout. Once it has absorbed, grab an old toothbrush or another small scrubbing tool and scrub the grout sections of your tile floor. You should notice a change immediately.

Wipe your floors and enjoy your tile

With your tile and grout thoroughly cleansed, take a dry towel to your floor and hit all those areas where moisture is persistent. Once done, you’re free to enjoy your tile floors.
